![]() Well, digiKam hasn't done anything fatal to my files and runs well now, so maybe it is a keeper if I just stay away from geo tagging. And as I said, they often mess with my file system and/or duplicate my image files. Most "think" differently than I do and that never works in the long run. I can't find any other program that I like. Geo tagging was just one of the features I happened to try. It's also open source but seems very stable.īut my question wasn't really about geo tagging, but about digiCam as a cataloguer. That means I can do a lot of images taken at different locations in one fell swoop. Contrary to putting a pin on a map and then trough internal magic transfer the coordinates to EXIF, it lets me drag multiple pictures from a "camera roll" to the map and the geo tags are added. The same information need also be stored in the database. Non-Destructive Editing We will store the version history of a file in an XML format in its metadata. Command line is too time consuming for this since.īut it turned out another software I'm also trying out and think is a keeper does this in a very efficient way. Whenever possible I would like to preserve upwards compatibility, that is digikam 0.10 - 1.3 should just work with the schema-updated database, even if not using new features. ![]() I need to do add fairly accurate coordinates for lots of pictures and I don't have them recorded already, thus need to find them. Maybe you already thought of this and its something completely different. ![]() Restarting the computer both before and after the uninstal might also have released resources. If you don't want to go through the arcane process of checking file handles then completely restarting the computer and repeating your geotag process without starting anything else would be the first step (before a reinstall). Lightroom is really better in all aspects. Both are based upon Linux based interfacing frameworks, so the user interfaces leave something to be desired. Darktable is photo editing software, with some digital asset management capabilities. I don't have digiKam but if I'd had the original problem I would have checked that the image files you were writing to weren't in use (I'm guessing digiKam would always write to sidecar files in this case). DigiKam is digital asset management software, with some limited photo editing capabilities. Oh, I've forgotten to mention I'm on Win10.ĭid you restart the computer? If so, when? Is it usual that it behaves erratically? I would hate to spend days organizing my image files just to have digiKam become useless again. ![]() Next time it thought everything was read-only and works just fine. Peculiar isn't it? First time it didn't find any problems with my file system and didn't work. THIS time, no matter what location I chose, it said I didn't have write access. During installation it asks for a location for the database. I uninstalled digiKam and deleted every trace if it - it left quite a lot of files. The connect database option in DK setting to check the database connection can connect without problems. Turned out I couldn't delete files either. The imported database looks fine but DK refuses to recognize the database with error DBVersion does not exist If I use HeidiSql to inspect both databases they appear identical (including the DBVersion entry in the Settings table). ![]()
